Key Agronomic Advantages
Purest Sulfur / Analysis
Keg River products use pure sulfur for a guaranteed analysis that is significantly higher that AMS.
Seed SafeTy
Keg 85S and Keg 90S can be safely applied in the seed-row.
Season-Long Availability
A season long source of sulfur to plants throughout the growing season.
Spring or Fall Application
Elemental sulfur gives growers the flexibility to apply when it best suits your schedule and input strategy.
High Degradability
Using bentonite clays with superior swelling characteristics allows for quicker, more complete breakdown and conversion of S in the soil.
Reduced Leaching
Bentonite sulfur is less prone to leaching than AMS, and provides less impact on water supplies.
Soil Health
Sulfur improves a plant’s ability to utilize nitrogen. Sulfur can also be used as part of an amendment program to lower soil pH.
Why Bentonite Sulfur Fertilizer?
Degradable bentonite sulfur plays an increasingly important role in agriculture as the world searches for ways to increase food production. It has the advantage of being high analysis, low cost, and seed safe – with minimal loss from leaching. It’s also one of the best products for lowering soil pH, from both cost and logistical standpoints.
Premium Clay. Premium Performance.
Not all clay is created equal. By using only the best quality bentonite clay, Keg River fertilizers will degrade quicker and more consistently in the soil than products with lower-quality ingredients.
The better the clay, the better it is at absorbing water. As the clay swells, it helps to release the sulfur particles for easier conversion to plant-available sulfates when sulfur is oxidized by soilborne microbes.
Inferior-quality clays do not exhibit the same swelling capacity. This can cause the pastille to remain rigid in the soil – and prevent proper breakdown and oxidation.
Encourages Microbial Oxidation
The process of converting elemental sulfur to plant-available sulfate begins when the temperature and moisture are right for bacterial action to begin. In cold climates, this conversion will not typically take place in winter months, meaning fall-applied sulfur is not lost.
Advantages Of Using Keg85S™
The more high-quality bentonite clay, the better the breakdown. The increased clay content causes an 85-analysis bentonite sulfer (0-0-0-85S) to disintegrate more thoroughly than a 90 analysis bentonite sulfur (0-0-0-90S). The reason is that there are more clay particles between the sulfur particles, resulting in smaller sulfur crystals. The additional clay makes an 85-analysis product harder and less prone to damage through handling.
