Keg River Organics* Keg85S degrades more thoroughly upon activation with water. It provides superior absorption of water and swelling. This makes it easier for soil microbes to colonize the sulfur and initiate the conversion to sulfate.
The additional clay content increases the pastille hardness (crush strength) of Keg River Organics* Keg85S by over 30% (compared to Keg River Organics* Keg90S). Staff appreciate the noticeable difference when handling Keg River products.
Increasing the clay content further reduces an already low ignition hazard. We tested Keg River Organics* Keg85S and Keg River Organics* Keg90S for ignition of airborne dust. Samples were ground to fine dust for testing and placed in an explosion chamber and measured for ignition at various concentrations. Below are the Minimum Explosible Concentration (MEC) results for both products.

Keg River Organics* Keg85S can serve as the main sulfur nutrient source if it is regularly applied as part of a nutrient management program. However, if soil sulfur levels are very deficient, or if elemental sulfur is being applied for the first time, inputs must be augmented by a form of soluble sulfate to ensure immediate sulfate needs are met (especially in the case of high sulfur demand crops such as canola). After repeated applications of elemental sulfur, use of AMS can successfully be reduced or eliminated.
Keg River Organics* Keg85S can be banded or broadcasted; broadcasting in the fall has the benefit of exposing pastilles to freeze-thaw and moisture over winter for more thorough disintegration.
The application rate is based on agronomic recommendations from soil tests & crop removal rates of sulfur. Repeat applications of Keg River Organics* Keg85S improves soil populations of sulfur-processing bacteria – the soil becomes more efficient in converting elemental sulfur to sulfate.
